We are exploring that idea now, and will be working on the design and build-out of the AltCity space over the coming weeks and months. As a project designed to maximize the benefit and engagement of the community, we are inviting the community to come help and be a part of that. Whether you have experience as an architect, painter, builder, or none of the above, we could use your help! Our principles are reflected in our design. We are aiming to develop a space that includes these elements:
- a creative, inspiring, and exciting space
- a space that brings together the design elements of an “Arab literary cafe” (though we recognize that is partially a romantic vision from our imagination) and elements of the new media and youth / tech culture
- a very eco-friendly place, showcasing existing methods, developing new eco-friendly designs, and using re-purposed (up-cycled) materials whenever possible (we have a cool idea for a redesigned bathroom that will dramatically reduce water consumption that we’re excited to share with the community! … and many more ideas in the works)
- promoting a DIY { do it yourself } culture where people feel empowered, creative, and supported to build and create things that improve their lives, and improve our world
